Chamarel rum has been produced in Mauritius in the Rhumerie of the same name since 2008. Several types of terroirs exist on this island in the Indian Ocean. The exploitation of Chamarel rums is located on fertile land, with red volcanic clay soils benefiting from a very good level of sunshine.
It is by keeping control over each of the production stages (from cane cultivation to bottling) that Rhumerie Chamarel can today boast of producing a rum of this quality which all the inhabitants of the island are proud!
'A great Rum is born from a great juice': this is the motto of Mr. Herbert Couacaud JR, Cellar Master of Rhumerie Chamarel. Thus, three varieties of cane are selected for their sugar yield and the quality of their juice. It is therefore hand-cut and extremely fresh canes that reach the distillery. In the Chamarel rum, there is no burning in order to guarantee the quality of this cane juice, locally called 'fangourin'.
Chamarel XO rum is a 6-year-old rum from a blend of rums that have been distilled in columns and copper stills and then aged in French oak barrels.
