The 2017 Barbaresco Gaja is nuanced and delicate with ever-increasing aromatic intensity that amply fills the balloon of your glass. The wine takes a little time to fully open and slowly releases wild berries, powdered licorice, toasted anise, spearmint, dried lavender and rosemary essence to form a lasting bouquet. The palate is clean and almost steely, with an extremely linear approach that adds to its length and persistence. The tannins are integrated into the delicate fiber of the wine, but you can still feel the added textural firmness of the warm vintage.
