The Romanée-Conti 2011 was picked on September 6 at 26.83hl/ha. As usual, the Romanée-Conti is reluctant at first, as if the wine is watching you before deciding if you are worth it. It then unfolds to reveal a focused and deliciously concentrated bouquet of crushed strawberry, flint and smoke. The palate is devastatingly sweet on the attack. The tannins are like lace, the acidity perfectly judged and it builds gently on the palate to an alluring, poised finish that lingers incredibly long. This is a master class in “less being more”: a Romanée-Conti consumed for medium rather than long term cellaring.
