While Amaretto is the Italian name for almond liqueur and is used in Italy to refer to liqueurs with a nutty and marzipan-like flavor, Amaretto Disaronno doesn't contain a single almond. Instead, it is made from apricot kernels from Saronno that are macerated in Grappa. This is perfectly legitimate because the term Amaretto comes from the word "amaro" (= bitter) and is used in reference to this type of liqueur that was originally flavored with bitter almonds.
